JOAN MANUEL SERRAT Tour 2018:
MEDITERRANEO DA CAPO
(back to the beginning)
Víctor Villegas Auditorium, Murcia, July 8th
Joan Manuel Serrat is considered one of the most important figures of modern popular music in the Spanish and Catalan languages.
There is an old Catalan proverb that sums up the epic of Ulysses, the Odyssey: Roda el món i torna al Born (“Turn the World and Return to the Borne”, one of Barcelona’s oldest and most important supply markets). This is like saying that it is good to travel along paths, cross borders, get to know other worlds and finally return home with what you have learned on the round trip, like the waves.
Almost half a century ago, Serrat embarked on a journey in search of new horizons and, like Ulysses, he also came across things he fell in love with, he descended into hell and, after surviving all his adventures and dangers, he now returns home, perhaps wiser and more convinced than before.
Hence the title of the show: MEDITERRANEO DA CAPO, with which he has decided to hoist the sails and set off again with his Mediterranean album (1971) as the axis around which this concert revolves. He will perform the 10 songs from that fundamental LP where jewels such as Lucía, Aquellas pequeñas cosas, Pueblo blanco, Barquito de papel and the mythical Mediterranean Sea will be presented with the best of his extensive repertoire and some new-look musical surprises.
Almost half a century later, Serrat returns to the Mediterranean that he never abandoned. In times of visas, borders and barbed wire, he has had the happy thought of considering that, in addition to being a citizen of the world, of Catalania, Spain and Europe, he is above all a citizen of his daily sea, of that liquid homeland that unites, more than it separates.
